Phases In Watch Collecting

Not too sure about everyone else, but it seems to me that this hobby is full of interesting phases. At certain times, we love every piece that we own, while sometimes, we’re just tempted to let some of our once loved pieces go and start over. Although the latter might seem like a low point, it is times like this that enable us to greater understand our preferences. That on its own, pretty much sums up the fun in this little hobby that we have. Which brings us to the question, as we are caught in different phases from time to time, do we really know what watch would feed our appetite?

Put it this way, I bet we’re all currently in a phase whether we realize it or not. For me, I guess I’m in a phase where I find joy in pieces that really fit my lifestyle. As I found myself guilty of having to tailor my actions around what I wear in the past, these days, it’s been more about wearing a piece that integrates well with what I’m doing for the day. While feeling very contented with the pieces in my collection, I’m learning more about my own preferences when it comes to watches. Interestingly, three aspects seem to always pop-up when looking at a watch. They are wearability, case design and timelessness.

Again, it’s always cool to see how a topic can be interpreted differently. To some, a phase can also mean the depth that one is immersed into the hobby. No, we’re not talking about the number of years as it honestly doesn’t matter, but more so about the geekiness that one has towards the hobby. Because as we dive deeper into the hobby, the knowledge that can be acquired never seems to end.

So, how about you? What phase are you in? As we spend so much time looking into what’s next, maybe it’s good to sit back, think about the present and live in the moment. Because that’s the beauty of it at the end of the day, right?
