Article: How many watches should we travel with?

How many watches should we travel with?

How many watches should we travel with?

Picture this, you’re packing your suitcase to head to a place that has been on your must-go list for years and you have reached a point in the process where you ask yourself “how many watches should I bring this time?”. It is at this moment that the inner geek in me would overanalyze what looks best with my outfits and of course, what would mean the most in terms of sentimental value. But before we get impulsive and pack up our whole collection, let's talk about the aspects should be considered.

After going through it a couple of times, the first aspect that seems to always factor into my decision making process is the purpose of the trip rather than its duration. As much as we hate to admit it, the number of watches that we bring never seem to be enough. Hence, thinking about why you’re there might be a more refined approach in my opinion. If work is the main priority during the trip, narrowing down the number of watches might be a better option as you’ll be occupied anyways. Besides, storage would be a potential issue if you’re constantly out and about.

Besides that, the weather seems to play a role in the decision-making process as well. Yes, we never know if forecasts are 100% right but it’s better to be safe than sorry right? Imagine bringing your vintage baby out and all you see is heavy rainfall (yes, that would definitely suck). But hey, let's keep our hopes up, it doesn’t mean that sports watches are your only options. Other than bringing a full-on dress watch, a good approach might be to bring a watch that wouldn’t look out of place in both dressy and casual settings through a simple strap swap. But with it all said, it all seems to boil down to the safety levels of the destination. As we all love our watches, it’s always wise to bring pieces that do the job while not catching to much unwanted attention on foreign soil.

All in all, this remains as a great conversation starter and an interesting topic to think about! No matter the destination, it’s always fun to think about the potential memories that will be built with our beloved timepieces. Personally, I prefer having a choice to swap watches while travelling. Therefore, I found that travelling with 2 pieces has served my needs well. With that said, happy travelling!
